A public transportation system that is connected AND convenient to use is an essential part of Detroit's comeback.
- Public transportation provides personal mobility and freedom for people from every walk of life.
- We live in the 13th most congested city in the country. Increased use of public transportation will ease this congestion and allow the cars on the road to achieve greater fuel efficiency.
- Investment in public transport has positive effects on the local economy. Between $4 and $9 of economic activity results from every dollar spent on public transportation. Public transit investment frequently has a positive effect on real estate prices.
- Public transportation spending creates jobs. Every $1 billion invested in public transportation supports and creates more than 50,000 jobs.
District 1 requires State assistance for the development of inter-modal transportation systems. As District 1’s Representative, I will work to ensure that the State extends aid for the:
Expansion of the M-1 Rail.
Development of a Regional Bus Rapid Transit System, which would connect Wayne, Macomb, Oakland and Washtenaw Counties.
Completion the Inner Circle Greenway, a 26-mile bicycle path that runs throughout the tri-county area.
Increased implementation of Complete Streets programs. Designed to enable safe access for all users, Complete Streets requires cities to plan for non-motorized paths when repairing existing roads, or building new ones. These changes make it safer to cross the street, walk on the side of the road, and ride a bicycle.
