Since 2005, over 1-in-3 homes in Detroit have been foreclosed; leaving an estimated 80,000 abandoned and blighted homes. The funding for programs that have helped many homeowners stay in their homes has been exhausted, leaving many families without assistance.
Restoring funding to these programs is critical to allow our neighborhoods to thrive. Properties that are not able to be saved should be quickly demolished and cleaned up, reducing the effects of vacant and abandoned buildings.
As District 1’s next Representative, I will ensure that the State:
Ensures that programs like Step Forward Michigan and Save The Dream are fully funded.
Expands Mayor Duggan’s Detroit Home Mortgage Initiative to the rest of Wayne County.
Works with Congress to ensure that funding for blight removal continues.
