Across Michigan, the demand for energy continues to grow. Clean energy provides jobs in every state, not just those with oil below the ground. Investing in clean, efficient and renewable energy is in Michigan's best interests. Once elected, I will support measures that meet Michigan's energy needs without destroying the environment, such as:
- Increasing Michigan's Energy Efficiency Resource Standard. By increasing Michigan's Standard, we can lower our energy costs and decrease the amount of pollution in our State.
As our next State Representative, I would support legislation that would require utility companies to increase the amount spent on renewable energy, annually.
- Increase state oversight of oil and gas pipelines throughout Michigan. I am alarmed by the oil pipeline we currently have in the Mackinac Straits. After the Line 6B oil spill in the Kalamazoo River, it is clear that Enbridge simply is not doing enough to ensure the safety of the Great Lakes.
As our next State Representative, I would be a vocal advocate for the Pipeline Safety package filed by Rep. Jeff Irwin.
- Stop fracking in our neighborhoods. Current fracking regulations leave our ground water supply in danger of pollution from the chemicals necessary to complete the fracking process.
As our next State Representative, I would lead the effort to adopting fracking regulations that guarantee our clean water remains safe to drink.
